What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin ceramic shells about 0.5mm thick custom-crafted and permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth. The result: a complete smile transformation with minimal tooth alteration.

💎

The Shell

Made from high-strength dental porcelain, each veneer is approximately 0.5mm thin about the thickness of a contact lens. The translucency of porcelain mimics natural tooth enamel perfectly.

🔧

The Preparation

A minimal amount of enamel is gently removed to create room for the veneer. This ensures a natural fit without making your teeth look bulky. In some cases, no-prep veneers are an option.

🔗

The Bond

Each veneer is cemented with a permanent dental-grade adhesive and cured with a special light. Once bonded, your veneer becomes part of your tooth strong, stable, and built to last over a decade.

Smile Flaws That Veneers Correct

Porcelain veneers are one of the most versatile cosmetic treatments available. If you're unhappy with the appearance of your teeth, chances are veneers can help.

Stained or Discolored Teeth

Deep intrinsic stains from coffee, tea, tobacco, or medications that whitening can't reach. Veneers cover them completely with a custom-matched shade.

💔

Chipped or Cracked Teeth

Minor chips and surface cracks that affect your smile's appearance can be covered seamlessly with a veneer restoring both looks and confidence.

↔️

Gaps Between Teeth

Small diastemas and spaces between teeth can be closed with veneers often without the time commitment of orthodontic treatment.

📈

Slightly Misaligned Teeth

Mild crookedness or rotation can often be corrected cosmetically with veneers giving you a straighter-looking smile without braces or aligners.

↕️

Short or Uneven Teeth

Teeth that are naturally short or uneven can be lengthened and reshaped to create a more balanced, symmetrical smile line.

🗏️

Worn-Down Teeth

Teeth worn from grinding (bruxism) or acid erosion can be restored in appearance with veneers, bringing back length, shape, and a healthy glow.

Porcelain vs. Composite Veneers

Both types of veneers can transform your smile but they differ in longevity, process, and cost. Here's what you need to know to make the right choice.

💎

Porcelain Veneers

  • Lifespan: 15+ years with normal care
  • Appearance: Most natural, mirrors real enamel light refraction
  • Stain resistance: Highly resistant to coffee, wine, and tobacco
  • Visits: 2 appointments over 1–2 weeks
  • Cost: Higher initial investment
☀️

Composite Veneers

  • Lifespan: 5–7 years with proper maintenance
  • Appearance: Good aesthetic result, slightly less translucent
  • Repairability: Chips can often be repaired chair-side
  • Visits: Often completed in 1 appointment (same day)
  • Cost: More affordable starting point

Not sure which is right for you? We'll walk through both options at your consultation no pressure, just honest guidance.

Porcelain Veneer FAQs

The preparation appointment uses local anesthesia, so you won't feel pain during the procedure. Some patients experience mild sensitivity in the days following preparation especially to cold. This is temporary and resolves once the permanent veneers are bonded. Sedation is also available if you're anxious about any part of the process.
With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 15 years or more many patients get 20+ years from their veneers. The keys are good oral hygiene, wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth, and avoiding habits like biting your nails or chewing ice. Composite veneers have a shorter lifespan of 5–7 years.
Not when they're done well. Porcelain naturally mimics the translucency and light refraction of real tooth enamel. The key is shade matching and proper design. Our cosmetic team spends considerable time designing veneers that complement your facial features and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. Poorly done veneers can look opaque or "chiclet"-like which is why choosing an experienced cosmetic dentist matters.
Yes veneers are not permanent in the sense that they will eventually need to be replaced. However, with good care, this is typically not needed for 15+ years. Because a small amount of enamel is removed during preparation, once you have veneers, you'll always need veneers on those teeth (or some other restoration). This is why it's important to choose a dentist who takes a conservative approach to preparation.
In most cases, porcelain veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure and are not covered by dental insurance. However, if a veneer is being placed to restore a chipped or cracked tooth, partial coverage may apply. We'll check your benefits and provide a transparent estimate before any work begins. Our in-house Membership Club offers 15% off all treatment, and CareCredit financing is available for flexible monthly payments.
